Background

This new web design was to increase traffic and decrease the time it takes to apply on the Tegna website. Unfortunately, the project was cut short as the developer left before the project was finished, and is now put on hold until a new developer is found. The design was to condense our website so that people are getting most of all information upfront rather than digging for it. It also decreased the amount of time and click-through rate that was happening on our previous web design.

Increase the process and decrease duration and work that people spend applying to a company.

Why And Who Is The App For?

Tegna is a power house of local news channels with multiple producers across the nation and multiple other employment opportunities. Although the website was built in 2018 with no UX designer the user experience was lacking. Through this its to target those producers to have an easier time of applying and getting hired than how it was before.

How might we create an engaging and efficient career page that brings in new hire opportunities?

Research

I looked into the psychology of career page web design to understand more about what helps increase people to apply to Tegna.Write an apt amount of skills needed for the position and be transparent about what will be needed to make the role successful. From research, most people are applying through behavioral resumes which may lead to missed skills and required skills that can make the job more stressful for the employer and employee. (1) When engaging with users on the new hire process make sure to sell the company more. Selling the company and being transparent guarantees to avoid the kiss of death when getting new hires that are either transitioning jobs, fresh out of college, or new hires. The other aspect of career pages is trying to persuade people to apply. What are we offering? What are the perks of working at this company? We can draw people in through a message or how they are bettering others when looking at our web page (2). Among the persuasion method and content of the job board, the overall use and illustration of the job board could be related and used by the TAM method of creation. This can help navigate and explore the use of the job board page laying it out in a concise manner and increasing reception and us of the site (3). Job seeker's ease of use is paramount to the use of the website and how effective they are when using it. This ease of use can come from multiple factors such as aesthetics, content, and flow. Each of these helps the user navigate the site and allows them to apply easily and make a meaningful choice in their job search. The hypothesis is that combining these will increase the job application submitted rate convincing the person to work for said company. This interaction can create a lasting impression and increase reception about the company towards others. creating an interactive and meaningful job board/career page can help increase the user's attention on the site. Job searchers are more likely to apply or take an application seriously when the job board and career page are transparent and well thought innovative design. This makes an alluring factor that the company is modern and looking to bring a forward-thinking approach to them.

I also interviewed 14 coworkers to see how they felt about the previous sight. This gave me insight on what to adjust take away and condense so that the application time was more efficient for the user.

Notes from interviews are such.
- I found applying on LinkedIn was a lot faster than the actual website.

- I went through around 5-7 pages to find out different benefits and things, and after I almost didn’t want to apply.

- Its a bit confusing to get to applying.

- Had a hard time finding the right job I saw on google when applying.
With this feed back and interview, I found that it would help to optimize the filter function as well as the search function. This would improve the overall performance of the sight and allow people to find their job faster and apply for them quickly.

Wireframes

I found the key priorities that stakeholders wanted on the landing page of the sight then worked my way through lower-priority functions that would lead down the sight. This would allow people to get a comprehensive look at what Tegna is before applying. I then applied these priority functions and research into wireframes to test with coworkers.

Final Prototype Design

Conclusion

After all testing was complete the final prototype is what would have been put on the Tegna website for development. Although right now the project is on hold till further notice. Below you can find the figma file and all prototypes linked to the project.
