Conclusion
I was asked by my creative director to come up with a look, design, and motion graphics for KUSA on their anniversary of the Pope visiting Colorado. I had about 4 days to complete this graphic. I wanted the look to have a gentle but also old paper texture to it like a collage but not fully a paper collage.
I sent them over two designs. One was a very clean collage look and the other, which they chose, was a bit more darker colored and more old paper collage style which they liked. After the presentation I had a few days left which I worked on photoshopping and editing photos and videos as well as finding or creating vectors that would be needed for the graphics. I mixed in the halftone texture to the photos as it added more depth to the photos and blended the style more comfortably. I also wanted to add some more catholic imagery into it with the fingers of David.
During the creation of the graphics. I used double layering of images and colors from the piece to give them a shadowed look. I also used the effect starglow to give the sun the light rays that were still on brand for the style. The pattern in the background was this texture image I found on adobe stock and traced it out to use for the whole piece. I also needed to keep very organized with this as they were requesting a lot of assets.
The special gained over 15k views live and on KUSA’s website. Jon, the producer, loved the look of the final piece and said that it was a very well done piece celebrating a 30 year anniversary.
