Background

Carpe Diem is an App-based activity finder used to find and locate based on location and interest while keeping in mind the person's individual Abilities. Finding things to do is challenging taking up a great amount of time researching and discussing with a group, and if anyone in the group has different abilities, the challenge is even greater. This app allows users to put in their location, and fill out a questionnaire, this gives the app a determined amount of events. The app will then display a number of events or activities that accommodate a person of any ability to go to.

Create an interactive app that helps people find activities or events near them. Making it easier for people of all abilities to find something to do.

Who Is The App For?

Carpe Diem is for those wanting to get out of their comfort zone and enjoy new activities that suit them whether this is solo or in a group. Carpe Diem focuses on the person's situational, temporary or permanent locations to find activities. This gives everyone using the app an equal opportunity to seize their day.

Why?

How might we design an app that recommends activities based on personality, interests, and location that can accommodate and satisfy users of a variety of abilities?

Inclusive Design

Inclusive design is designing for everyone and not excluding anyone. This type of design practice focuses on the diversity of people's abilities and how that can impact design decisions that are being made. It's important to take all these into consideration as it makes the design more accessible to a wide range of people. It can enable people of all abilities to interact with your product with ease. This is to design for the sake of others and not for one's self to include and not exclude users.

Empathy

Before designing for inclusivity we had to understand what empathy was. Empathy is the ability to understand and relate to someone’s condition or emotions. The team went through different exercises to engage with empathetic designs. These exercises help better understand a few of the many varying disabilities that can exist. Such as a person with vertigo, motor conditions like quadriplegia and limb loss using the following website: Empathyprompts.net

This website helped build an understanding of what it's like to live without certain aspects of one's life. After going through this our team came up with a Persona Spectrum. This helped us understand our user's limitations across a spectrum of permanent, temporary, and situational disability.

Site Map

The site map helped us understand how to organize the app for better efficiency.

Prototyping

With this project we had a very tight deadline of about two weeks with also dealing with other classes and work to finish a deliverable app. We needed to jump right into Low fidelity designs and test them to finish them with High Fidelity Designs. With the feedback we got from the Low Fidelity testing we adjusted the prototype accordingly to make sure the user flow was highly efficient.

User Journey

After initial testing of the app we found ways to speed up the user journey when we created a user journey map

UI Kit

We were able to share assets quickly and adjust our UI with needed buttons from the UI kit

From the feedback on our design, we had one-on-one sessions with users. We had several feedback that we needed to address.

We added confirmation screens on purchasing event tickets. We went back and reviewed the icons to make them more universal. A more guided approach after the user does the questionnaire to get them started looking for events. As well we used similar colors so we decided to make the colors more complimentary. We also gave the buttons more padding and made the font size bigger so people could more easily read it.
