Conclusion
CBS 8 San Diego was doing a special on the 70th Anniversary of Disneyland. I luckily got to take on this project unfortunately I only had a few days to complete the opening. I really enjoyed working on such a fun project. They allowed me complete creative freedom and with it I wanted to make it fun, bright and trail through the history of Disney. The only thing that they wanted was for their music to be played for the open.
I needed to ideate quickly to create this piece. I wanted to use organic shapes throughout it so for the next hour I looked up as much inspiration as I could. Quick google searches and some searches on behance led to the style that I created. I wanted it to be abstract fluid and allude to characters and designs of Disney characters.
Taking that look I put it on a scrolling motion with everything animating and showcasing footage through it to showcase old Disney to what it is today.
The most challenging piece of this was figuring out the timing of the camera scrolling by and fitting all of it into a 5 second video. I wanted the abstract shapes to come through for the characters so that I wasn’t infringing on copyrighted material while also alluding to their presence.
The producers really enjoyed the look and design of the piece. There were no revisions or critiques on it and the special now has over 11K views with another 20K live viewers of the program. What's fun is that 2 days after the special I was able to go to Disneyland.
