A app to help new and veteran D&D players to create characters
The convoluted nature of making a D&D character is not user friendly in the slightest. It typically requires multiple readings of books and hours to actually understand and make a character. After helping people make characters, making characters myself, and hours of wasted time just to start the game. I found that this app would help people make a character quickly like from RPG games. As well they can go through multiple books quickly avoiding DM rules or other aspects that they don't need when creating and maintaining a character sheet.
Create an interactive app that helps people find activities or events near them. Making it easier for people of all abilities to find something to do.
This is for new and veteran players so that they can start an adventure more quickly rather than spending an 8 hour session just to make characters.
A person should need 3 $50 books just to get started in a game the mostly uses the imagination
Introduce more people into D&D rather than just being gatekept by a small group of people
To make an app that is efficient for people and is on them all the time compared to keeping track of loose sheets of paper.
Most people that I interviewed, in a preliminary trial, said that they had a lot of books, papers, and other items that they brought with them to a game session. They also found that having an app would minimize other distractions on their phone rather than looking at memes on their phone while the game is being played. Others that were newer to the game typically enjoyed using apps for efficiency purposes and found that it would save them more money than using books. Also if they left something at home it would typically derail a good portion of the session or leave all the materials of the game to one person.
I took a look at what was existing for helpers on line that were correlated or worked directly with D&D what I found was this.
From AB testing 61% preferred the 1st option, but strongly preferred the logo from option B as it was a cleaner design.
Personas helped me characterize and focus in on who I was making the app for.
With this project we had a very tight deadline of about two weeks with also dealing with other classes and work to finish a deliverable app. We needed to jump right into Low fidelity designs and test them to finish them with High Fidelity Designs. With the feedback we got from the Low Fidelity testing we adjusted the prototype accordingly to make sure the user flow was highly efficient.
This shows the flow that the user will typically take when starting the app
